What is PCLinuxOS?
- For new users: PCLinuxOS (abbreviated pclos) is a Linux distribution (a free operating system) written with the new Linux user in mind. It is one of the most straightforward Linux versions to install and run. It includes all the essential software for everyday use.
- For advanced users: PCLinuxOS is so complete and friendly, that it has become the primary operating system even of seasoned Linux users. For power users, PCLinuxOS is extremely easy to customize.
- Distribution: PCLinuxOS is provided as a single installable "Live CD". This lets you try it without making any changes to your computer. If you like it, you can install it to your hard drive. What you were trying out will become what you boot into.
Applications/Programs
- PCLinuxOS comes with many applications pre-installed. More are available in the PCLinuxOS official repositories. They can be installed using the easy-to-use Synaptic Software Manager. Applications are added and updated quite regularly.
Hardware
- PCLinuxOS has a Hardware Database where users can rate and comment about working or non-working hardware. This site also serves as a place to check if your existing hardware may work. This site is solely dependent on user submissions, so if your hardware is not listed do not fret, it just may not be submitted yet. If you try PCLinuxOS and your hardware does work, please do a submission.

- 8 GB of free disk space (To install. to run the live CD you don't need any)
- 512 MB of memory (you can get by with 256)
- a CD or DVD drive
- a network card
- a high speed internet connection (for new software and updates)
